Out & About: WordCamp London 2019
Each team member at ClarityDX has a £1,000 personal development budget each year. In our ‘Out and About’ series, we catch up with the team following their adventures at conferences, events and learning.
This time we chat with WordPress Developer Matt, following his ambassadorial role as the face of ClarityDX at this years WordCamp London.
1. What is your role at ClarityDX?
WordPress Developer
2. What have you attended recently, where and why?
WordCamp London 2019.
3. What does the event focus on and why this event over others?
WordCamps are a casual, locally-organised conference covering all things WordPress. There are a range of talks throughout the event which can focus on many different aspects of the platform, such as development, design, content, business etc.
There are hundreds of WordCamps worldwide throughout the year, I choose the London one as it is pretty local and thoroughly enjoyed my experience when I attended last year! (and we are sponsors)
4. Was there any talk or individual, that inspired you to act differently?
There was an interesting talk about Content Syndication by Mark Wilkinson. He talked about an ambitious project he and his team were undertaking which involved using a WordPress multisite to share content between many different sites.
This particularly inspired me as it has similarities to a current project we are undertaking at ClarityDX for our client Zuken, which is also based on a WordPress multisite and has content shared between different sites.
5. What did you learn that you can take into your work day-to-day?
I discovered more about the latest developments in the WordPress Data API, which now has a huge library of endpoints in available in JS in a WordPress theme which give the developer data from the back end without the need to manually create an AJAX request to gather whatever date they may need.
Hopefully, this is something we can utilise in the not too distant future.
