1. What is your role at ClarityDX?

Junior Web Developer

2. What does an average day for you look like?

Currently, most of my day is spent completing a few internal projects to bring me up to scratch and get me used to writing code with our internal best practices in mind.

Following that, my time will be split between front end development (bringing designs to life in the browser) and client support.

3. What’s the most challenging part of your job?

With coding, it’s impossible to know everything and so, more often than not, I’ll be solving problems that I’m unfamiliar with. It might be a particularly challenging layout or a bug but ultimately, the most challenging part of my job is to be constantly learning (it’s also the most fun thing too).

4. Any advice for those who want to do what you do?

Firstly – be sure you really want to do it. Do some coding in your spare time and do a few small projects to test the water.

Second – get your foot in the door. Do what you need to to get in the industry as quickly as possible. Web development is an industry that moves fast, and the quickest way to learn is to get a job and develop within a team. You don’t need to know everything to land yourself a job, have a solid foundation of the basics and show your potential to learn and be great with the right attitude.

5. What future design and/or technology developments in the industry are you excited about?

What with the release of the Gutenberg editor I’m excited for the future of WordPress web development.

The new React-based editor opens up a new way of thinking and a new world of possibilities when it comes to creating rich and powerful user interactions.

It’s also great for clients. Clients often tend to dislike the content management system’s user interface and Gutenberg has drastically improved this experience.

6. What are your passions/hobbies/interests?

I love to keep fit; Weightlifting, running, yoga…. You name it I’ll do it!

7. What’s your favourite thing to read in print / online?

Smashing Magazine writes great content for front-end developers and designers. I normally read this on my commute.
I also like the odd GQ magazine every now and then.

8. Tell us a random fact about you…

I did an amateur MMA cage fight 2 years ago… unfortunately, I lost.

Let's Talk

Do you have a web design and build project coming up that you would like to talk about?
